Pauli-Fierz systems at positive temperature

By a Pauli-Fierz system we understand a finite level atom coupled to a heat bath at thermal equilibrium. The coupling causes the atom to dissipate energy and settle in a thermal equilibrium, Gibbs state, at the same temperature as the reservoir. Mathematically, this takes the form of a dynamical system on a suitable operator algebra, and the sought after properties are expressed in terms of ergodicity and mixing. Due to quantum Koopmanism, ergodicity and mixing can be reformulated as spectral theoretic questions for a self-adjoint generator of a dynamics on an Araki-Woods von Neumann algebra. In this talk we will present some old and new results on the spectral structure of the generator, the so-called standard Liouvillean.
