Modular forms can be seen as high-tech gadgets with applications to several distinct areas of mathematics, most famously number theory. I will attempt to motivate the definition of modular forms as functions on lattices, and give a few examples as to how they can give us results in number theory. Finally, I will talk about their connection with elliptic curves and the Modularity theorem which was the key ingredient to the proof of Fermat's last theorem. Prerequisites: Equivalent to the bachelor courses in mathematics.
