Analysing the Role of Signs in Mathematical Inventions

1 – 2 June 2026 Aud. D1 (1531-113)
Workshop

This workshop brings together scholars from diverse disciplines to explore whether visual aids—such as diagrams and notations—shape the development of mathematics. Importantly, the aim is also to address methodological questions: How can we analyse (mathematical) signs to determine their role? What tools do disciplines such as semiotics, the history and philosophy of mathematics, cognitive science, information science, and mathematics education provide for this analysis?
