I work in Number Theory, and more specifically in Diophantine approximation. In its most simple form, Diophantine approximation is a quantitative study of the rational numbers (the fractions) as a subset of the real numbers. The topic has close ties to other sciences, notably to physics through the phenomenon of resonance, but also to signal processing and wireless communication. As a field of research, it draws on many branches of mathematics, including dynamical systems, analysis and algebra.
