Corina-Gabriela Ciobotaru to explore new methods for quantum computing

Corina-Gabriela Ciobotaru from the Department of Mathematics at Aarhus University will work with researchers from the Department of Computer Science to investigate how mathematical methods can help optimise quantum circuits.

Their project, Quantum Circuit Optimization through Group Theory and Buildings, has been selected for the first QCA Incubator programme, an initiative by Quantum Campus Aarhus. The programme supports interdisciplinary research teams in developing their ideas and turning them into concrete research outcomes.

The researchers will explore how group theory and the geometry of spherical buildings can be used to optimise quantum circuits. One of their aims is to reduce the number of CX gates, which are costly and error-prone components of quantum computations.

The project is jointly led by Corina-Gabriela Ciobotaru from the Department of Mathematics and Daniel Gratzer from the Department of Computer Science. The team also includes Johannes Carl Droschl, Jens Emil Christensen and Esben Kaae Bonnerup. The team aims to produce a joint research paper establishing new connections between modern mathematics and quantum computing.

Over the course of a year, the QCA Incubator will help the team develop its collaboration, connect with relevant researchers and partners, and advance the project.
