Nina Dörnemann and Tim Kutta newly appointed Tenure-Track Assistant Professors in Statistics

We warmly welcome Nina Dörnemann and Tim Kutta as newly appointed tenure-track assistant professors at the Department of Mathematics, Aarhus University. They started on the 1 July and the 1 August, respectively.

Nina Therese Dörnemann received her PhD in mathematics in 2022 from the Ruhr University Bochum, with Holger Dette as her supervisor. After a semester as a postdoctoral researcher in Bochum, Nina joined at the University of California, Davis, first as a visiting scholar and later as a visiting assistant professor.

Nina has primarily worked in the field of high-dimensional statistics and random matrix theory, specifically with covariance matrices and their spectral properties when the dimension is comparable to the sample size. In terms of teaching, she has experience in both applied statistics and advanced statistics courses.

In her free time, Nina enjoys playing football.

Tim Manfred Kutta completed his PhD in statistics in 2022 at the Ruhr University Bochum, with Holger Dette as his supervisor. After a brief postdoctoral period in Bochum, Tim has been a postdoctoral researcher at Colorado State University.

Tim has primarily worked in the field of functional data analysis and is also interested in differential privacy issues and the analysis of large data panels. Tim aims to expand his work in functional data analysis in an interdisciplinary direction, specifically towards financial models. During his postdoctoral period, Tim has taught various statistics courses.

In his free time, Tim enjoys reading books and practising kung-fu.
