In this talk we will present an introductory theory of harmonic analysis on locally symmetric spaces and automorphic forms. Further, we will discuss how several tools from this field are used to study problems related to dynamical zeta functions and $L$-functions. We will also discuss some recent developments on Fried 's conjecture, which is the problem of relating the Ruelle zeta at zero with spectral invariants.
