Invitation to inaugural lectures // Invitation til tiltrædelseforelæsninger

Torsdag 6. november 2025 14:15 – 15:20 Aud. G2 (1532-122)
Tiltrædelsesforelæsning

The Department of Mathematics hereby invites you to attend two inaugural lectures on 6 November 2025.

Inaugural lecture by associate professor Corina-Gabriela Ciobotaru

Time:
6 November 2025, 14:15 – 14:45

Place:
Aud. G2 (1532-122)

Lecture title:
Buildings in Aarhus

Abstract:
Buildings are mathematical structures developed in the 1970s and 1980s to classify simple algebraic groups over arbitrary fields. They unify combinatorial and geometric ideas, connecting areas such as algebra, geometry, and group theory. Generalizing concepts from flag manifolds, projective planes, and symmetric spaces, buildings offer a versatile framework for modern mathematics. In this talk, I will present an accessible overview of the theory of buildings, highlighting its foundational ideas and drawing on insights from my own research contributions to the field.

Inaugural tenure track assistant professor Tim Kutta

Time:
6 November 2025, 14:50 – 15:20

Place: Aud. G2 (1532-122)

Lecture title:
Real-time analysis for time series - what has changed?

Abstract:
We discuss the problem of sequential change point testing in a time series. The original problem formulation goes back 30 years to applications in economics. In this talk, we will trace how the field has developed since then, which progress has been made and which questions have fallen to the wayside. We will also discuss how recent progress in stochastic process theory may lead to drastic improvements of current methods. We will close with an outlook on a field where many questions remain open.

Reception

After the last lecture, the Department will host a small reception in Vandrehallen, building 1530.

We look forward to seeing you!

Best regards,

Jacob Schach Møller Head of Department
