The Kac master equation provides a simple framework for understanding equilibration of particle systems. In this talk I'll review results on the entropy and information decay for a one dimensional Kac system coupled to a reservoir as well as results on the gap of the generator of a Kac process describing a three dimensional gas of colliding particles.
